Non-Surgical Face Lifting: Ulthera vs Morpheus 8 vs Liftera

The Non-Surgical Lifting Landscape

Ten years ago, the only option for significant facial lifting was surgery. Today, I have three distinct technologies at Leor that can achieve meaningful lift, tightening, and rejuvenation without a single incision. But they are not interchangeable. Each excels in different scenarios, and choosing the right one depends on your specific concerns, age, skin quality, and budget.

Ulthera Prime: The Deep Lift

How it works: Micro-focused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) targets the SMAS layer, the same deep structural layer that surgeons tighten during a facelift. This is the only non-invasive technology cleared by the FDA for lifting the brow, chin, and neck.

Best for: Patients 40 and above with moderate sagging, jowling, or brow descent who want the most significant lift possible without surgery. Also effective for neck tightening and decolletage rejuvenation.

Results: Gradual lifting over 2 to 3 months as collagen remodels. Full results at 6 months. Effects last 12 to 18 months.

Discomfort level: Moderate. The deep ultrasound energy can be uncomfortable. We use a combination of topical numbing and oral pain management.

Morpheus 8: The Skin Remodeler

How it works: Fractional radiofrequency delivered through 24 microneedles at adjustable depths (0.5mm to 4mm). The combination of needling injury and RF heating triggers intense collagen production while remodeling the subdermal tissue.

Best for: Patients 30 to 50 who want skin quality improvement alongside tightening. Particularly effective for acne scarring on the face, stretch marks on the body, fine lines, and mild to moderate skin laxity.

Results: Immediate skin texture improvement. Progressive tightening over 4 to 6 weeks. A course of 3 sessions is typically recommended.

Discomfort level: Mild to moderate with topical numbing. The microneedling sensation is noticeable but tolerable.

Liftera: The Targeted Touch-Up

How it works: HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) delivered through interchangeable cartridges at 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm depths. Similar principle to Ulthera but with a different delivery system that allows faster, more targeted treatment of specific zones.

Best for: Patients 30 to 45 with early signs of sagging who want targeted lifting in specific areas (double chin, nasolabial folds, jawline). Also excellent as maintenance between Ulthera sessions.

Results: Visible tightening within 1 to 2 weeks. Full results at 2 to 3 months. Effects last 6 to 12 months.

Discomfort level: Mild. The cartridge-based system is generally more comfortable than full Ulthera.

My Decision Framework

When a patient asks me which to choose, I consider three factors: the degree of lifting needed, the primary concern (lifting vs skin quality vs both), and the budget. Ulthera for maximum lift, Morpheus 8 for skin quality plus moderate tightening, and Liftera for targeted touch-ups or maintenance. Many patients benefit from a combination approach over time.

At Leor

All three technologies are available at Leor, and I personally assess which is right for each patient. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, which is why the consultation is essential. Book your assessment and I will recommend the approach that will deliver the best results for your specific facial anatomy and goals.
